Specialty Feeds has evolved from Glen Forrest Stockfeeders, a company which was established around 40 years ago as a manufacturer of quality feeds for farm and domestic animals. During that time the focus of the business has shifted, and whilst quality has retained a key role in the operation, the type of feed we make has changed. We now mainly supply diets to the research community - largely small animals in laboratories but also farm animals for agricultural research and native animals for environmental projects. Glen Forrest Stockfeeders still exists and makes a range of stockfeed for the local market.

Feed Safe & SMCA

To ensure that we continue to produce quality products the company is certified to ISO9001and accredited under FeedSafe, which is the quality assurance programme of the Stockfeed Manufacturer’s Council of Australia. Both these programmes require us to undergo regular external audits in order to maintain accreditation.

Our laboratory diets are used extensively by facilities throughout Australia, also in New Zealand and Asia. We make standard diets for production facilities and custom diets for research. Our manufacturing facility is conveniently located in Glen Forrest on the outskirts of Perth in Western Australia which means we are able to source raw materials from the largest grain producing area in Australia. Wherever possible we use locally produced ingredients and no hormones or medications are used unless specifically requested by the customer.

We are still a relatively small business which gives us the flexibility to produce diets exactly to our customer's requirements. These can be complete diets or supplements to be fed with a specific combination of grains or roughage. All diets are formulated by the manager Warren Potts using his expertise as a biochemist with particular experience in laboratory animals. Orders can range from 10kg of a highly specialised diet with specific inclusions (or exclusions) to several tonnes of standard diet. Diets can be vacuum packed and irradiated if required. We also supply bedding for laboratory animals.

We are able to arrange delivery throughout Australia using our own transport contractor or courier. For interstate orders there is a twice weekly road service to the Eastern states - transit time to Adelaide and Melbourne is around 2 to 3 days, to Sydney and Brisbane 4 to 6 days. The port of Fremantle is nearby for overseas orders with weekly sailings to Singapore and on to other destinations. Urgent orders can be shipped by air to any destination.
