EcAMP3 is a plant hairpin-like defense peptide isolated from barnyard grass seeds. Studies have shown that EcAMP3 has antifungal and antibacterial activity in vitro. Because each member of the precursor family of EcAMPs contains 7 cysteine of similar structure, EcAMPs contains two pairs of ring-forming disulfide bonds, consisting of 35 amino acids. EcAMPs are the first plant hairpin-like peptide family peptides that inhibit the growth of plant pathogens and have complex resistance to a variety of pathogenic microorganisms.
