Magainin II is a peptide with antibacterial effect, composed of 23 amino acids. Studies have shown that Magainin II has a strong bactericidal effect, mainly by inducing early apoptosis of E. coli to cause its morphological changes, and then promote the bactericidal effect. Magainin II kills bacteria by penetrating cell membranes. The main mechanism of action is to cause osmotic swelling of cells and subsequent cell rupture, disturbing the membrane function responsible for osmotic balance, leading to cell death, while Magainin II has no obvious toxicity to mammalian cells.
