Gastrin is an important gastrointestinal hormone, which is mainly secreted by G cells. G-cells are typical open-type cells, with the most in the antrum of the stomach, followed by the fundus of the stomach, duodenum, and jejunum. In addition, the D-cells of human pancreatic islets can also secrete gastrin. The main role of gastrin is to stimulate the proliferation of gastric mucosal cells; stimulate parietal cells to secrete hydrochloric acid and principal cells to secrete pepsinogen; stimulate gastric antrum and intestinal motility, delay gastric emptying; stimulate the secretion of pancreatic juice, bile and intestinal juice. [Leu15]-Gastrin I is a modified sequence of Gastrin, which consists of 17 amino acids, of which the 15th amino acid is replaced by Leu. There are 4 consecutive Glu in the sequence which increase the difficulty of peptide synthesis.
