应用:N-乙酰基-L-半胱氨酸已用于抑制酿酒酵母中氧依赖性羟基脲的敏感性。它还被用作治疗C2C12鼠成肌细胞的抗氧化剂。

生化/生理作用:抗氧化剂和黏液溶解剂(mucolytic agent)。增加细胞池的自由基清除剂。据报道可防止神经细胞凋亡，但会诱导平滑肌细胞凋亡。抑制HIV复制。可作为微粒体谷胱甘肽转移酶的底物。
