Serratiopeptidase (serrapeptase) is a proteolytic enzyme that has fibrinolytic, antiendemic and anti-inflammatory activity. It is derived from non-pathogenic enterobacteria Serratia marcescens. This enzyme is absorbed through the intestines and transported directly into the blood stream. It binds to alpha2macroglobulin in th blood in the ratio of 1:1, which helps to mask its antigenicity but retain its enzymaticactivity and isslowly transferred to thesite ofinflammation.
