The principle is similar to that of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and solid-phase extraction (SPE), where impurities are adsorbed to achieve purification. The QuEChERS method involves extracting a homogeneous sample with acetonitrile (or acidified acetonitrile), using extraction salts (magnesium sulfate and buffer salts) for salting out and layering.
