Cefixime, an organic compound with the chemical formula C16H15N5O7S2, is a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic, which is suitable for the treatment of respiratory, urinary and biliary tract infections caused by sensitive bacteria. Cefixime is highly stable to β-lactamase produced by gram-negative bacilli, and its antibacterial effect on gram-negative bacilli is stronger than that of the first and second generation cephalosporins, but its antibacterial effect on gram-positive cocci is worse than that of the first and second generation cephalosporins. Cefixime drugs approved by the State Food and Drug Administration have a variety of dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, dispersed tablets, dry suspension and granules, all of which are prescription drugs.
