DAMGO is a selective opioid receptor agonist. The sequence contains D-type amino acids, and the C-terminal is not a conventional carboxyl group, but a hydroxyl group. DAMGO inhibits the neuron survival promoted by CXCL12, abolishing the neuroprotective effect of CXCL12 in NMDA neurotoxicity studies.
