Escin is a mixture extracted from horse chestnut seed (HCSE). It contains many compounds, such as protoescigenin, barringtogenol, α- and β-escin, cryptoescin and benzopyrones. HCSE compounds are poorly absorbed in the digestive tract (12.5%). Maximum activity of the preparation occurs 16 hours after ingestion.
